Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Can't find what you are looking for?  Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service where we partner with libraries outside of Southern Nevada to try and help you locate the resources that you need.

This cooperative and core library service allows libraries to provide materials to patrons by reaching beyond their own limitations of space, budget and scope of collection.

Residents of the Library's taxing district can place an ILL request through our website: https://hendersonlibraries.com/request or by calling (702) 707-2665.

Non-Henderson residents can request ILL materials with a non-refundable $25 per item prepaid fee.

How Do I Place a Request?

1.  Start by searching our online catalog (visit this FAQ for help on how to search and place a request): https://help.hendersonlibraries.com/m/99625/l/1280443-place-a-request)

2.  If you don't find the item that you are interested in, submit a request using our Request a Title web form: https://hendersonlibraries.com/request

Who May Request This Service, How Much Does It Cost?

ILL service is available to Henderson patrons that have a current HDPL library account in good standing (i.e., card is not blocked for fines, overdue materials, valid contact information). There is no charge for ILL services for Henderson residents and HDPL can obtain most materials at no cost to the patron.  However, if an item is only available for a fee, the patron will be responsible for that cost.  Staff will verify that the patron is willing to pay the fee before the request is submitted.

Non-Henderson patrons can request ILL materials with a non-refundable $25 per item prepaid fee.  However, Las Vegas and Boulder City residents should use the ILL service available through the Las Vegas Clark County Library District: https://lvccld.org/ill/

There is a limit of 5 active ILL requests per patron.  "Active" means any request from the time the request is submitted until the item borrowed is returned to the library.

How Long Does It Take?

There may be a 2-4 week wait for an item requested through ILL and we are unable to guarantee an arrival time.

What Kinds of Materials Can Be Requested?

ILL requests can be submitted for the following materials:

  • Books, except those published in the last 12 months
  • Audiobooks (CD or Cassettes), except those published in the last 12 months
  • Microfilm
  • Photocopies of specific articles or pages from journals, magazines or newspapers
  • Photocopies of specific pages from non-circulating (such as reference and genealogy) materials.

The following materials CANNOT be requested through ILL

  • Items owned by HDPL including items with holds and reference materials
  • Mass market paperbacks
  • Materials that are available at another library in Clark County
  • Books or audiobooks published in the last 12 months
  • Downloadable e-books
  • Downloadable audiobooks
  • DVDs or VHS tapes
  • Music cassettes or CDs
  • Computer software

How Will I Be Notified of the Status of My ILL Request?

ILL Staff will notify patrons if we are unable to fill a request.

When your request is available for pickup, you may opt to receive an automatic notification via email, text or telephone.

A patron who requests an item through ILL and does not pick it up upon notification by the library will have ILL privileges suspended for 6 weeks. Three instances of this will result in loss of ILL privileges.

Where Can I Pick up My ILL Request?

Materials may be picked up from any HDPL library location specified by the patron.

How Long is the Lending Period?

Due dates are determined by the lending library according to their policies. ILL items are not eligible for renewal.

How Should ILL Materials Be Returned?

Materials can be returned to any HDPL location (James I. Gibson, Green Valley, and Paseo Verde Library).

What If an ILL Item is Late, Lost or Damaged?

A patron is responsible for the material requested through the ILL and will be charged the same overdue fees as for HDPL items.

The patron is also responsible for the replacement cost of the item as determined by the lending library if the item is lost. This charge will be billed to the patron’s account.

Please be aware the borrower is responsible for the item from when it leaves owning library until it is received back at loaning library. This means borrower may be charged for items lost in mail.

Please DO NOT remove any paperwork from ILL materials. This increases the chance for items to become lost and patrons to be charged for the materials.

Restricted Materials

The lending library and HDPL Staff can dictate the conditions under which it will lend ILL materials. Staff will notify a patron that the material is available but restricted to “In Library Use Only”. Materials with “In Library Use Only” designation may not leave the building.
